Getting ready to plant.

Yes, I realize it is only the middle of February, but there is really is so much to do. We treated the grass with weed & feed yesterday. Today we cut back the monkey grass, the butterfly bushes, lantana and angel trumpet. I also mulched more leaves and spread mulch around.

Yesterday I picked my first daffodils! I have hyacinths with buds. My dark red camellia is just beginning to bloom as well.

Daffodils in February seem impossible to me. My roommate our freshman year at Emory surprised me with a bunch for my birthday in March. In Ohio we didn't see them until April, often late April.

We have snowdrops in Northern Virginia now and a few pansies popped out at the end of last week, when it warmed up a bit. It's been cold these last two days and will be tomorrow. After that we'll have some warmer weather, but who knows for how long?

It's fun to keep up with your gardening.

I forget that pansies are not winter flowers everywhere. I plant mine in late October and have a little color all winter. They can usually last until early May, after which it is just to hot for them.
